Jerusalem-on-Dearne

What ancient people left their mark
On England's green and pleasant land?
What structures on the valley floor
Were built by man's almighty hand?
Did these lost tribes, with steel and coal
Rise up and fight with nature's wrath?
Was a Jersualem founded here
Along this river's winding path?

In silver birch, on clouded hills,
Lie scraps of iron scattered round.
And all the dark, satanic mills
Now lie in ruins on the ground.
The chariots of fire are ghosts;
The rails they rode have long since gone.
And so Jerusalem was never here,
And all that's left is Babylon.
