Les Murailles :- The Walls

Giant walls built with stones and blood
Bigger than the battles, defying the years
Today these towers would be blown down by the wind
And they used to swear that they would last always

Mining cottages, slag heaps in the north, litany of the landscape
To the living as well as the dead, the mine is their history and their language
That coal, labour and luck, every miner lived it
But that one day there would be silence, no one would have believed it

I did wonders when I built our love
By guarding your sleep, by raising walls around you
But when you love you are wrong, you are stupid and deaf
I believed so strongly that it would last forever
